Grant Essay Questions

Choose three questions. Answer them in an essay or a video uploaded to the Licking County 4-H Band Grant Google Form.

1. The “Jane Copenhefer Hands to Larger Service Grant” honors the work and dedication of Jane Copenhefer, former director of the Licking County 4-H Band, who served her community for over fifty-two years and counting. Jane lived out the tenets of the 4-H Pledge, including using her hands for larger service. Tell us about someone you know who uses their hands for larger service. What has their example inspired you to do?

2. In the Licking County 4-H Band, members pledge “…my head to clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service, and my health to better living…”. Which of these four tenets of the 4-H Pledge would you use in your proposed project? How would you use them?

3. What does “hands to larger service” mean to you?

4. When we take the 4-H Pledge, members promise to put their better selves to work “…for my club, my community, my country, and my world.” Tell us about your club, community, country, or world. How would your proposed project benefit it?

5. People are at the heart of the Licking County 4-H Band, and members learn that leadership often begins with service to people. Service can be to the fellow musicians in your section; to other Band members as a section leader, field commander, officer, or Council or Advisory Board member; or to the people of our community through concerts, parades, and projects. Through your proposed project, how will you lead people? How will you serve people?
